The debut release by Paraquat has been a very long time coming: as a defined entity dedicated to creating ‘music’, Paraquat has existed since around November of 2000; and although the duo has been playing and recording together for coming up on 25 years, there was never really much discussion of playing gigs or doing releases; for them it was a more personal endeavor. But when CBC caught wind of their more recent recordings the group was gracious enough to allow us to release some of their demented jamming (their preferred word for what they do) to the world at large.

Named in tribute to the drug that the two were under the influence of during the creation of these tracks it would not be unfair to call this ‘trippy’, although much like its namesake, it can also be quite unnerving and at times induce a sense of uncontrolled spiraling dizziness. Made up of two 10 minute side-longers, the first sounds like some sort of foreign entity desperately trying to communicate with you in a tongue that is utterly alien while in the distance a somber harmonium strikes chords that seem to belie a creeping darkness.
